Taizé Community Vespers

Forget the ceaseless activity of daily life and be still.
Meditate, reflect, enjoy silence, candlelight and music...

4pm Sunday October 23rd, 2011

Congregation members who have attended Taizé Community Vespers say:

"I really didn't know what to expect when I attended my first Taizé
Community Vesper service. In the hushed candlelit room, we were
welcomed by warm colours and harmonious voices accompanied by stringed
instruments. This tranquil atmosphere and simple service encouraged us
to slow down and just "be". It's an experience not to be missed."
Dana Fitton

"If you are looking for an opportunity to stop, I mean really stop,
and get away from the frenzy and cacophony of our contemporary
existence then attendance at a Taizé service is a must. I’ve heard
lots of people comment on how important it is for them to experience
some quiet. Taizé services provide a contemplative, prayerful and
meditative experience interspersed with some of the most beautiful
choral singing one can imagine. It’s 45 minutes of rich ritual; a
respite from the noise and demands of everyday life."

What is this service like?

This reflective time will be held at our interim location: St Aidan's Anglican Church, at Queen and Silverbirch. The space is prepared for silent meditation and prayer at 3:30pm with the 50 minute service beginning at 4pm. With a song
book and printed page, you will find your way through parts of the service.
Spoken word, a ten minute guided meditation, and singing led by a vocal
ensemble and instrumentalists are elements of our time together. A time of candle lighting offers time for individual prayer appeals.

As the service comes to a quiet end, folks leave gradually and all are welcome to
remain in silence as long as needed.

Everyone is welcome.
