SunSundayOctOctober3rd2010 LET US BUILD A HOUSE

Let Us Build a House . . .

Our Ministry in Progress statement asks:

Why are we (Beach United Church) here?

and

What is God calling us (as a community) to do?

In brief, we want to:

Provide a spiritually-based community of faith for:

• personal transformation & new ways of understanding what “faith” means

• worship and study opportunities & putting personal belief into action

• learning about Jesus while respecting other religious practices & multiple theologies

• exploring life’s deepest issues with respect for personal freedom and choice

Value and support personal relationships & our connectedness to community by:

• offering a place to build deep personal relationships while respecting different faith

traditions, cultures, & lifestyles

• welcoming, respecting and celebrating families of all types

• valuing the presence and contribution of all ages

Give care and support to the world, both family and strangers, by:

• being aware of how our communication impacts others & by showing respect for all people

• reaching out to those in the local community who need help

• working with those who are oppressed & respectfully accept diverse gifts

Work for change and social justice by:

• showing respect for the earth and all creatures

• working for change and social justice in the world & being a spirit of hope for change

In order to do all this, we strive to be:

RELEVANT

ADAPTIVE

SUSTAINABLE

AUTHENTIC

So what does that mean for Beach United Church as we move forward?

how will we put our words into action as we decide how to use the south portion of our land?

The south portion of our building will be taken down and our ministry needs will

be housed in our sanctuary footprint. We have an opportunity to dream and

implement a new use for the south portion of our land. What ideas do you have

for how we might use this piece of land?

dream big think large create new be bold

write your ideas down and send them to

FriFridayJanJanuary15th2010 The Beach United Church Gala!

Mingling over hors d’oeuvre and wine; dinner with live entertainment; prizes and surprises too!  Here’s an exciting soirée that you really can’t miss.  Your invitation to Beach United’s January 30th gala dinner and theatre evening has been mailed.  Haven’t received yours yet?  Let the church office know and one will be sent to you, pronto. Tickets are limited so place your order today.  At the low cost of $25, the price will barely cover the costs of this special evening, so consider also making a tax-deductible donation to the church.

First, a few requests:

• Prizes, we need prizes.  Donate one or several (minimum value $10) and deliver to the church office

• A huge thank you to the many volunteers already on board, but in order to be assured of a place at the table, everyone, including volunteers, must buy a ticket

• Vegetarian, vegan, food allergies?  Let us know before the big night, and we’ll ensure that dinner fits your needs

• Tuck a little money in your pocket or purse for the cash bar and prize purchase

• No tux or ball gowns required; this is not a formal event

• And, oh, one more request:  Three (cream-coloured) church tablecloths are mysteriously missing but needed.  Please check your laundry room and if found, return to the church office.

Questions? Call Mary Ann and Brian Bell at 416-691-8077 or the church office at 416-691-8082.

Looking forward to seeing you at the gala!
